You Are The Apple of My Eye

Recently, I saw a nice Taiwan movie:

那些年，我们一起追得女孩。[You Are the Apple of My Eye]

That movie is about a guy(and some of this friends) who fell in love with a girl during his high school years and how their relationship progress through the years. (I shall not say much for those who haven't seen the movie)

This movie is interesting in that while watching it, I can't help but be reminded of the time when I was in High School. It reminded me of the opportunities that I have missed and the time that we had during that innocent time.

Life during High School was so carefree and I really enjoyed it. Thinking back, I wish I could go back and live back those times >.<

My Internship in Chin & Rakan Rakan

Before I write anything, Chin & Rakan Rakan has no affiliations with me or my family whatsoever. It is just a coincidence that my family name is the same.

Chin & Rakan Rakan is a law firm situated near Petaling Street. I started my internship there at the end of May this year. I really enjoyed my time and I learned many things there. It is an honor and privilege to learn beside one of the best and humble litigation lawyer I have ever known, Mr. Albert Koo.

I have mentioned before in one of my previous posts that he brought me to the KL court to experience the court system on the first day. I must say it is totally different from what you have learned in law school and what you will actually be doing when you are a lawyer. It was not my ambition to be a lawyer as initially I wanted to be a counselor.

Anyhow, I ended reading law as my parents wanted me to be a lawyer which is a more 'lucrative' profession. Well, that is true to a certain extend if you are really good in what you are doing. Some say lawyers are always out to get your money but it isn't true as there are many good lawyers around like Albert.

For example, he does not overcharge client and he will not trick the client and always think of his client best interests. However, sometimes the clients can be very demanding and it is hard to juggle between your family and your clients.

One thing is for sure is that I have taken up this path and I shall continue it to the end. I also believe God has put me there for a reason. As my final year is approaching, I hope I can do well in my finals and get a second class upper maybe? Wish me luck!

My Blog's 1st Anniversary

I just realized that its already been 1 year and 1 month plus since I started writing a blog. Looking back at all my previous posts, I realized that God has truly blessed me through this one year. I never knew writing a blog could prove to be so good. I know my posts are not many, and I hope to write more in the future.

At the moment I'm writing this post, I'm sitting in the office of a law firm, Chin & Rakan Rakan at Petaling Street. (I will put a post about this very soon). I can hear my stomach groaning as it is almost lunch time.

I would like to dedicate this post to all my friends who supported me in creating a blog and who has constantly encouraged me through their comments. I am truly blessed to have friends like you.

Last but not least, this post is also for my Lord Jesus Christ, my Saviour. Soli Deo Gloria! To God be the Glory!!!

Korean Vision Trip Part 2

After the conference, we went back to Seoul. We went to visit many places in Seoul. First, we visited Ehwa Women's University and Yonsei University (both are famous university in Korea). Then we went to visit the famous Han River. After that, we were treated to a traditional Korean dinner.

The next day, we went to Cheonan, the birthplace of JDM(Jesus Disciple Movement) and stayed at the Timothy Training Disciples Institute.

The following day we met up with Peter (one of my Korean friends whom I met in Malaysia). He brought us to visit the famous cathedral in MyongDong. After that, we visited the Korean traditional house. Then, we went to Jim Jil Bang! (Korean public bath) This public bath is very unique and it is a must try. Its called public bath because its literally public in a sense that everyone goes into the public bath naked! However, its divided between man and woman and it is not a common public bath.

They have all kinds of bath inside depending on which public bath you went to. And it is quite expensive per entry (about RM30) but you can stay as long as you like. In the public bath that I went, they have several kinds of bath for you to choose ranging from hot tea bath to cool bath and you can try anyone of them. First you must scrub your body with soap(its free) and rinse it off before going to the baths.

After you have finished bathing, you can change to the public bath robes and go to the common area where everyone and rest and relax. There are massage chairs provided and many small hobbit holes for you to rest. There are also saunas, ice rooms, television, restaurant and children playground. After the refreshing bath, we went to some shopping malls.

On the 10th day, Peter brought us to visit an aquarium. After that, we went to the KBS(Korean Broadcasting System) Station. It was really exciting to go there and we had the privilege to go on a special tour inside because the guide is one of the member in Jonathan's church. We got to see the studio, the dressing room and the makeup room. We also got the chance to go watch a famous music talkshow. =)

On the 11th day, we went to Jonathan father-in-law's place. They are very nice people and treated us Bulgogi (A type of Korean BBQ beef dish). It is really delicious! Then they brought us to visit the Korean Independence Museum. It was really big and divided into 6 parts. It was not boring at all and I learned a lot about Korean history.

On the last day, we went to LotteMart to do some shopping. When it was time to leave, many of them(Jonathan's friends) came to the airport to send us off. I was really touched by their support and kindness T_T I hope to go again to Korea in the future. God bless Korea!~

Korea Vision Trip Part 1

On the 27th June - 8th July, I had the wonderful opportunity to go to South Korea!!! It all started when my Korean friend, Jonathan Son asked me early this year to follow him to Korea for a Christian Summer Conference for students. I was excited when I heard about it and decided to go for it as my internship finishes on the 24th June.

This is like a wonderful dream come true as I always long to go to Korea to experience what is Korean culture like. The rise of K-Pop (Girls Generation, Wonder Girls, 2PM, Super Junior) and the Korean Dramas have also fueled my interest in going Korea.

So on the 27th, me, Jonathan and Sejun(another Malaysian friend who decided to tag along) arrived at the Incheon International Airport. We were picked up by one of Jonathan's church member who lives in Seoul. He was very kind to us and his family treated us to a sumptuous supper and let us stay in his small but cosy apartment. He loves to collect classical music and he has an antique radio that was used during WWII. He also told me about his experience where he and his wife traveled around Europe for 1year+ after they got married. His baby is so cute!!!

The next day, we went on the subway before taking a bus to the conference. The subway is very complicated and it has 13 subway lines! (=.=) The students on the bus treated me and Sejun warmly and most of them are quite shy to speak to us except for a few guys who are more fluent in English. The conference was held in Honam University in Gwangju. It was summer so it feels kinda like Malaysia minus the humidity. The weather is quite cooling as one can feel a gentle breeze blowing (something like Cameron Highland). After a short time of welcoming and worship, we were broken up into smaller groups. There were about 300-350 students in this conference. The theme of the conference is "Real Gospel, Real Life!" and it lasted for 5 days.

The schedule for the conference was packed with activities. Morning we had Quite Time as a group before breakfast. After breakfast, we had discussion on Bible study before going to a lecture. After lunch, we had worship and Bible Expositions. After dinner, we had worship again before the main lecture starts. After the main lecture there will be a time for praying. One thing about this conference: its all in Korean! Me and Sejun had a difficult time listening to the lectures as our command of Korean language is very very weak. Thankfully, some of our group members who are more fluent in English was able to translate for us.

During the conference, we learned about the book of Daniel and the book of Galatians. Daniel was a very familiar book to me as I have heard of its story since young in Sunday School. (E.g. Daniel and the Lion's Den is a famous story). I was once again convicted to be like Daniel, a man of strong faith and courage who dared to defy a king. His faith was so strong that even the King acknowledge his God. Galations focused on the true gospel and reminded the Christians in Galatia not to be led astray by false gospels/teachings.

Despite the busy schedule, one thing unique about this conference is the praying partner concept. In our group, we will take turns to pray for one another by having a prayer partner. We can share almost anything and then we prayed for each other's personal needs. The Korean Christians are very open and friendly and they are always full of joy.

On the 4th day of the conference, we had one special afternoon for sports activity and it was really fun! ^_^ I was happy that I came as I made some new friends. I had a good time of fellowship with the Korean Christians. It is one unique conference that I will never forget. When the conference ended, we took a bus back to Seoul.

EARC

On the 25-31 May 2011, I had the chance to go for EARC (East Asia Regional Conference) that was held in NUS, Singapore. EARC is a Christian student conference, held once every 3 years. Many Christian students from over East-Asia came for the conference. The theme was 'Wake Up and Dream - The Time is Now!'

Before I tell you about the conference, I want to thank God for giving me the opportunity to go. Actually my attachment period clash with the conference and I was sad thinking I couldn't go anymore. But one of my tutor, Ms. Choong asked me and encouraged me to go for it. She said I should not let the attachment be an excuse and instead she suggested that I ask for a one week leave from my attachment. I did as requested and both my course coordinator and supervisor gave me the green light! ^_^ But by then, I realised that the date of registration was already closed. I quickly contact the FES staff and behold, she said there are still places left and I could join. Praise the Lord!

And there I was taking a train together with 81 other Malaysian students and 7 FES staffs to Singapore. The journey took about 7-8 hours but time passes by very quickly because we had ice-breaking and slept. During the opening ceremony, we were told to wear our JAM(Jambatan Anak Malaysia) t-shirt and also a scarf on our head. Not surprisingly, we were the only country which did that. It was a breathtaking sight seeing so many people (about 600) gathering in one place from different nations praising God. The opening ceremony was nothing but boring. We even did the Great Singapore workout! After that, we were divided into our groups. My group have 9 people (me, a girl from Hong Kong, a girl from Japan, two girls from Singapore, a guy from Country B, two guys from Indonesia, and my group leader also from Malaysia.)

I really like my group members, we bond instantly in the first day itself! The Japanese girl could not understand English and we had to have an interpreter with us most of the time. The first three days were packed with Bible expo, plenary sessions and workshops. What was interesting was the country sharing. Each country will take turns to share about their Christian movement from each country and a representative from other country will pray for them. When it was Japan's turn for sharing, they actually bowed down on their knees! I was touched when they shared. Many people cried not only because the person sharing was crying but also because of the devastation of the recent tsunami. If you are a Christian and even if you are not, please pray for Japan!

On the fourth day, we went on a urban hunt. Each group had different places and my group went to little India. The funny thing was their food is almost the same as in Malaysia. I didn't know what to choose and I finally settled for Nasi Briyani with mutton. We had some tasks to do along the way like interviewing foreign workers and taking pictures at a Hindu temple.

On the fifth day, we continue our plenary session and we had student concert!!! Malaysia performed dikir barat =) Then we also went to a Methodist church called St. Margaret Church for communion.

On the sixth day, which is the last day,we gather for a movement meeting within our countries. All of us shared about our experiences in EARC. We were sad that we had to leave the next day. After dinner, everyone gather together for the closing ceremony with traditional clothes. I wore an Indian Kurtha shirt. To me the Japanese and Korean girls are the most cutest with their yukatas and hanboks. >_< After that, me and my group members hung out till 3am enjoying our last time together and sharing each other's local food/snacks.

On the seventh day, we left for our own country =( It is sad to return back to the realities of life (especially working) but I was truly blessed from this conference. I learned to wake up and dream for God once more. =)
